Between junctions 5 and 6/7 - Sevenoaks and the M25- on the new 'smart motorway'.
Unlike advisory speed limits that can be shown on electronic signals on normal motorways, variable speed. These speed cameras are in place to help enforce a 50mph speed limit.
Highways England has moved to rubbish growing speculation that new smart motorway speed cameras are being switched on this week.

Yours. An LSE study showed that from 1992 to 2016, speed cameras reduced accidents by between 17% to 39%.
I was travelling south on the m25 last night (I think around junction 10?) and the variable speed limit changed to 20 mph even though the motorway was fairly quiet (I didn't see it change to this , I just got to part of the motorway that had this limit displayed).
Please can you confirm the time that each of these posted limits were put in place and the reason.

To be fair if you can get up to the speed limit on the M25 you are doing pretty well.

4. Highways England says it is not aware of any changes on these roads. .

kingston12. Users of the M25 have been familiar with Variable Speed Limits since the mid-1990s.
I'm always surprised on the M25 how some people seem not to care about them or the variable limits.
